Phuket

I had three nights on my own before I linked up with Mel and the rest of the girl gang! I flew into Bangkok and spent a night there, went to the Weekend Market the next morning and hopped back on a plane to go to Phuket! This was the dreaded trip where I lost my phone, so pictures are limited (this is the last time I can use losing my phone as an excuse for a lack of photos).

I stayed at the Lub d Phuket Patong hostel which I LOVED!! The rooms were so clean and updated plus there was a pool! This was my biggest solo trip to date so it was helpful to have the hostel book an excursion for me. I wandered around the area surrounding the hostel for a bit and treated myself to pad thai and mango sticky rice for dinner.

The next day I woke up early to get in a van to take me to a boat to the Phi Phi Islands! The tour included snorkeling, lunch, and time to check out the beach. The boat ride in was beautiful, the islands just jut out of the ocean. I loved swimming around in the reef, I was not ready to get back on the little boat when they called us in.

I got back to the hostel and ate in that evening. I had a bit of homework to do (its called Reading Week for a reason I guess, ugh) so I stayed in and worked in the lobby.

The next morning I was up early to check out Old Town Phuket. I struggled a lot with transportation in Phuket. There was no real public transit, I took one bus but there were no real schedules and not many routes. Taxis were cheaper than in the US or Canada but still pretty pricey to travel around the island solo. I opted to take a scooter taxi into Old Town Phuket. This was my first scooter experience so I was holding onto the driver for dear life the whole ride.

I went to a couple museums in Old Town Phuket and sat down for lunch to escape the heat. In the afternoon I did a mini hike on the southern part of the island before heading out to the airport for my late flight back to Bangkok.

It was a brief trip to Phuket, but I’m happy I got to see the beachy side of Thailand on the trip! Flights were cheap and I wouldn’t have lasted four nights in Bangkok hehe.
