Bangkok

I landed back in Bangkok late on a Monday evening and made my way to the hostel where I was reunited with Melissa after five months apart!!!! Mel and Moo had flown in together from Vancouver and stayed up the whole flight to fight jet lag so they were exhausted. We passed out in the hostel and woke up the next day and set off to meet up with the rest of the gang. We moved over to another hostel in Bangkok to stay with Moe, Andrea, and Emma. Moe and Andrea were on a four month trip around Southeast Asia together and Emma had joined them from New Zealand for a week in Cambodia and a week in Thailand! All six of us overlapped for about a week!

We dropped off our stuff and went to find breakfast. We found a small cafe and had some sort of scrambled eggs on toast and coffee. We then went to meet up with Wasin, another UBC student the others knew that had moved back home to Thailand after graduation. He graciously showed us around the city that day, starting with the Temple of the Golden Buddha, Wat Traimit.

The girl gang!!

We walked around with Wasin and checked out a few markets. We all tried durian, an asian fruit that smells revolting but supposedly tastes good. Fake news, it does not taste good!!!! It has a spongey consistency and tastes like rotten potato!!!!!

We tried to go to the floating market but it was closed, ya win some ya lose some. We did have fun getting from place to place on scooter taxis.

We ended the day at a cafe that Wasin’s dad owns! We had so much good food and thai iced tea!!! So yummy. It had been a while since all of us had seen each other so it was nice to just sit and relax while we all caught up. Amazing friends in amazing places!!

We said goodbye to Wasin and went back to our hostel. We had our big night out that evening on Khao San Road!! We had some miscommunication with the taxi driver and got split up and a bit lost, so we arrived late and most bars seemed to be closed. We had some beers on the street and wandered around a bit. The best part was pad thai on the street!!

The next day we slept in a bit and mostly ran errands. It had been a while since Moe and Andrea were in a large city and there was a lot to do. We got to run around a huge mall with a fancy food court where we had dinner and surprised Andrea with a birthday cake. We also needed to pick up our tickets for the SLEEPER TRAIN to Chiang Mai!!

Goodbye, Bangkok!
