HK Island: Nightlife

Lan Kwai Fung (LKF)

You’d have to see it to believe it. Even if clubs aren’t your thing (hi, me too), LKF is a bit too much fun. There are dozens and dozens of clubs and bars all packed together within a single block. Wednesday and Thursday nights are “Ladies Night” so chicas drink for free!! We got caught many times trying to share our good fortune with our male friends in the group, only to be promptly kicked out or banned from the bar, so proceed with caution. For the other five nights of the week, the multiple 7Elevens in the area are perfect for cheap booze.

For a more low-key evening or predrink spot, head to the IFC mall rooftop. It’s walking distance from LKF and the views of Hong Kong are fantastic. Students and young professionals would head there for drinks!

Junk Boats

Not exactly nightlife, but renting out a Junk Boat with 40 of your closest HK friends is a must!! They’re cheaper to rent out during the day and companies offer different options of banana boating, catering, and drinks. As fun as the banana boat is, with 40 people you get a pretty limited time actually using it; the drinks are a better bang for your buck. The boats are relatively easy to rent and a ton leave right from Central. Make plans before the end of September when it gets too chilly to swim!

House Parties & Tram Parties

One of the best nights I had was on the rooftop of a friend’s apartment building in Kennedy Town. It’s nice to have a place away from all the commotion of LKF or Mong Kok. If finding a friend living off of residence is easier said than done, it’s also possible to rent out a tram for an evening!! A friend of mine had a turtleneck and tequila themed party on a tram while it drove around the city and it was perfect.
