August 11th-14th, 2016
Prague was one of my favourite stops of the trip. I’m desperate to go explore more of western Europe after seeing Prague. The architecture was magical and the dessert was amazing. It also helped that the hostel we stayed in was awesome. The basement was set up as a bar and there were other travellers our age hanging around playing drinking games. We actually made it out to experience the nightlife in Prague (Katie and I would choose sleep over clubs any day so we didn’t really get out much in other cities).
On our first full day we slept in a bit and headed into Old Town Prague. We walked over the Charles Bridge to go find the John Lennon Wall. It was created after Lennon was shot and someone painted his face on the wall. People brought flowers and added to it and it became a symbol of peace later on.
We did a free walking tour (it was becoming a habit at this point) and saw the astronomical clock and other parts of the city. We had dinner at a swanky spiritual vegetarian restaurant. We slipped in right in time and they put us at this single table in a weird courtyard thing that didn’t seem to be part of the restaurant. But the wait after that was about two hours for a table so we lucked out.
The next day we headed over to the Prague Castle. We walked through the massive church and poked around the rest of the castle. Not really my taste tbh. We went to sit on a massive wall that surround the castle and looked out over the city (Katie had to lift me up). From our spot Katie spotted the weirdest looking wall that looked like one of those drip sand castles you make with wet sand at the beach when you’re little. Only it was black. We couldn’t tell what it could possibly be so we decided to head down to try and find it. We roamed the streets and eventually came to a garden that had the wall.
Turns out it was an art piece installed in the garden. The garden was also full of free roaming peacocks and lovely landscaping. We turned in early that day before our early train to Vienna the following morning
