Tian Tan Buddha
A large group of 11 of us decided to check out Lantau Island for the day. I loved wandering around Hong Kong in huge groups, we attracted a lot of attention haha. We took the MTR over and hopped on the gondola to go up to the Buddha. The town itself is very touristy. Like Disney World level touristy!! But we headed over to check out the Tian Tan Buddha, which was definitely worth seeing. It was indeed a very big Buddha.
We walked around the Po Lin Monastery after, which was also very impressive. The details on the buildings were soo intricate and colorful!!
We had a big agenda for the day, so we rolled out after viewing the monastery. We got on a bus headed for Tai O. Alternatively, the Lantau Peak hike, which you can read about in my other post, connects to the Tian Tan Buddha. The peak was probably more memorable than Tai O.
Tai O Fishing Village
Tai O is another location I only documented with my lost phone (it kills me). The spot was a bit of a trek from the Tian Tan Buddha but just one bus. This day happened to be very very hot and the town smelled very very fishy, which let me tell you, is not a great combination. It was neat to see all the fishing boats and dried fish hung up for sale. We stuck around and found a place that would seat all of us for lunch then headed out because of the heat.
Pui O Beach
We finished the day at Pui O Beach, which was just one bus ride away from Tai O. And this beach was a DREAM!!! Warm water and and plenty of room to lay out and play soccer on the beach. There were also restaurants and washrooms around. We could also easily catch a bus to the ferry terminal that would bring us back to Hong Kong Island.
