February 17th-22nd, 2017
For Reading Week this year me and some of my bestest friends took a road trip down to Oregon as our last trip together before half the gang graduates. We spent our first evening at Emma’s home in Seattle and stocked up on snacks at Trader Joe’s.
We headed out early the next day to make it to Cannon Beach. We wanted to stay for sunset but it was a bit cloudy and rainy. Luckily the rain cleared up so we could walk up and down the beach. The town was really adorable, but it was getting late so we headed out to make it to Portland.
We stayed at a cute little Airbnb a little ways out of downtown Portland. We cooked most of our meals there and spent a lot of low key evenings in working our way through all the Trader Joe’s beer we got. We opted for playing euchre and watching movies rather than going out (except for one evening when Angelia’s Canadian ID and my inexperience with ordering beer got us kicked out of a bar).
Our first day, we drove to the Columbia River Gorge to do some hiking. We started at Multnomah Falls but the trail was closed so we headed down the historic highway and found other falls to hike around. BUT, on our way in we hit a massive rock with the car. The hubcap flew off and Katie and I had to walk back up the road to find it later. The tires didn’t pop but Katie found the steering shaky so we brought it into the dealer and it ended up being a fairly big repair. No bueno.
Our next day we went into Portland at went to Powell’s Books!! The cool thing about it was all the used books were mixed in with the new ones so you could find a title and immediately find the cheapest book for it! We spent over an hour there and none of us left empty-handed. Then we had to go to Voodoo Doughnuts. We stayed in downtown for dinner and found a Mexican place that was connected to a strip club. Yikes.
For our last day, we had a late start and went to do some shopping. We went to Deschutes Brewery for beer and lunch. Then we walked around the city a bit and window shopped.
The next day we headed back to Vancouver. We stopped briefly in Tacoma, Washington aka kcribb’s hometown. We got burgers, fries, and shakes from the adorable burger place she used to work at. We also stopped in Seattle to drop off Emma before making it all the way back to Van. 10/10 trip and 10/10 friends.
